We recently began installing one of our interior design projects on Cape Cod.
This waterfront vacation home is beautifully situated, with its own private beach.
My design plan (concept board above) gives this 1980's house a fresh makeover.
The navy + white palette will keep things feeling crisp and cool on lazy summer days.
Streamlined, sculptural accents add drama and complement the gorgeous views...
A small path winds down to the home's private beach.
Soon, this inlet will be filled with the white sails of moored boats.
The house and guest cottage slumbered all winter, perhaps dreaming of summer.
LIVING ROOM - BEFORE
Installation team and I finalize exact drapery height at the new area rug's edges.
Rug is Indoor/Outdoor woven rope, which can take a beating from sandy feet and puppy paws.
Vintage lanterns were the wife's gift to the husband, to commemorate the home's purchase. They will feature prominently elsewhere to make way for window treatments. Walnut ceiling fans will replace builder grade models.
Dining table (in foreground) will swap out for a larger pedestal style that seats 8.
Four smaller rugs were sewn together to create a rug big enough to anchor the large living space.
The seams lend textural personality to the carpet, which is custom-bordered in vegan leather.
The vendor's handwork is high quality.
Our clients love the two-tone rope texture. So do I.
Breezy white draperies frame the views and establish verticality on the long window walls.
Living room draperies will also frame garden views at the front of the house.
The exterior is charming, replete with stone walls and hedges of blue hydrangeas that run the length of the living room.
The white sectional sofa arrives on Day 2. White is practical when slipcovered in washable denim.
I admit to a personal weakness for antique brass telescopes.
This one has a commanding view at the family room windows.
The console that sits between living and family rooms receives some early styling.
Most of the accessorizing will be done on our next trip out.
Next, work begins on the dining room, seen here from an interior porthole window above the living room.
DINING ROOM - BEFORE
Platinum + white beach stripe, in the form of another durable indoor/outdoor rug, will layer under the new round table. Draperies will soften windows and art will bring in the colors from the view. Rug tones complement the new chandelier.
Oyster shells take the place of glass drops over the future dining room table.
Beyond, the entry door is now painted a rich, dark navy called Abyss.
The entry palette is handsome, with darkest blues. Horizontal stripe roman shades dress the windows.
A walnut spool + wicker entry bench will sport dark blue linen on the seat cushion, accented with medallion pillows.
Classic stripe rug will welcome guests at the front door and run up and down the turning staircase.
Entry rug awaits installation.
Mike custom-cuts the stair runners out on the expansive deck.
Check back soon to see us finish this project in time for summer. :)
