Lisa Tharp founded her firm on the powerful idea that good design can improve the lives and well-being of people and their surroundings. Known for a clean-lined, sophisticated aesthetic, the firm's creative environments each tell a singular story… by enhancing architecture, connecting to a sense of place, and centering the personality, lifestyle aspirations, and wellness of those who inhabit them at the heart of the work.
Whether sourcing French stone mantels for a historic city mansion or designing a plush daybed for a relaxing waterfront retreat, the design team brings the principles of authenticity, craftsmanship, beauty, and sustainability to all they do. Their work has been featured by Architectural Digest, ELLE Decor, LUXE, House Beautiful, international publications, books, and by This Old House and Warner Bros Discovery television.
Tharp was recently inducted into the New England Design Hall of Fame on the tenth anniversary of the firm’s founding. Lisa Tharp Design has garnered several honors, including successive Institute of Classical Architecture & Art Bulfinch Awards for Interior Design, EcoHome Award for Tharp’s Concord Green Healthy Home which modeled healthy and sustainable building practices, Luxe Gold List, Best of Boston Home, and Metropolis magazine's Planet Positive Award for organic designer paint collection, LISA THARP COLORS, with non-toxic ECOS Paints.
Lisa is a member of the Institute of Classical Architecture & Art and the Back Bay Architectural Committee. Headquartered in Boston, with studio presence in New York, Montréal, and Auckland, the Lisa Tharp Design team is available for projects globally.

"Tharp allows spaces and people rather than a particular style to drive her work."

1. Define

The dream is defined. Our proprietary and fun discovery process uncovers deep learning about client goals, preferences and requirements. Project Scope, Budget, and Timeline are established. If construction is involved, our design/build team

is assembled, or we work with client’s own teams.

2. Plan

The dream is envisioned. Concepts, Plans and Specifications are defined for every detail.  This phase may include space planning, floor plans, interior elevations, kitchens, baths, cabinetry, architectural features, materials, as well as furnishings. Client input and approval complete each milestone.

3. Create

The dream becomes reality. Rooms take shape, are finished and furnished. From construction and production to installation of the last work of art, our team orchestrates the many talented specialists to bring the plan to life.

Sienna MacArthur

Alex collaborates closely with Lisa in leading creative development across the firm’s design projects and media content. Her Masters of Interior Architecture training enables her to digitally visualize and specify our concepts for clients and industry partners alike. Alex’s passion for design and remodeling started at a young age, watching her parents renovate over ten historic Maine properties. When not designing, Alex can usually be found somewhere outdoors, at a concert or hosting a dinner party.
Sienna brings organization and attention to detail to our creative development and implementation processes. With a French-American education, Sienna split her childhood between her family’s maple sugaring farm in upstate New York and Southern France. Her open-minded and unique approach to every design project stem from her international background and degree in art history. As a yoga teacher in her free time, Sienna’s passion for wellness and sustainability help inform her human-centered perspective to design. She is currently pursuing a Masters in Design for Human Health.
